This project was completed for an open air events venue that hosted weddings, birthday parties, corporate events and other functions throughout the year. The venue had a large open sided hall that was used for events in all seasons, including during the rainy months. Rain had been a recurring problem for the venue — on several occasions, events had been disrupted or partially ruined because rain suddenly started blowing into the open sides of the hall, soaking the decorations, the food tables and the seating. The venue owners had lost bookings because of this reputation and were very keen to find a permanent solution that would allow them to protect the hall quickly whenever rain started without affecting the appearance or atmosphere of the venue during events. After a thorough inspection of the hall, we recommended heavy duty monsoon blinds for all four open sides of the venue. The blinds needed to be large enough to cover the full height and width of each open side and the roller systems needed to be smooth and fast so that staff could roll the blinds down quickly the moment rain started — even during a live event. We used our widest, most heavy duty monsoon blind material for this project and designed a custom roller system that could be operated by one person easily and quickly. The blinds were made in a neutral dark colour that would not look out of place during an event and would blend into the background without drawing attention. The installation was completed during a quiet period between events and the venue team was given a full demonstration of how to operate every blind before we left. The first rainy event after the installation was a large wedding and when rain started during the reception, the venue staff rolled down all the blinds within two minutes and the event continued without any disruption at all.
